Natalia works as Professor of Early Childhood Education and Development at the University of Stavanger, Norway and Professor of Reading and Children’s Development at The Open University, UK. She is also a Visiting Professor at University College London and University of Malta.

Natalia co-developed an award winning Massive Open Online Course ‘Childhood in the digital age’ offered by the Open University and FutureLearn and a professional development online course for UK teachers interested in supporting children’s reading with apps and e-books. This course is offered by the National Literacy Trust as a hybrid course across the UK.

In 2017-2019 Natalia received the Future Leader Fund by the Economic and Social Research Council (UK)  "Supporting early language development and interest in reading with digital personalised books".

In 2021-2023 Natalia is the Jacobs Foundation Fellow and will combine innovative technologies with traditional research methods to enhance children’s literacy in three countries: Malawi, Norway and England.​
